How to make an Assetto Corsa track from any real road

Step-by-step guide to turn your street, your hometown or a mountain pass into an Assetto Corsa track in minutes, with no Blender and no modding.

Updated · Abel Antonino Juberías

Assetto Corsa track generated by Worldlaps: the START gantry over the mountain road and a red car on the grid.

The quick way: generate the track from a map

Until now, driving your hometown or your favourite mountain pass in Assetto Corsa meant modelling the road in 3D, preparing textures, exporting with Kunos’ editor and writing the track files by hand. Weeks of work for a few kilometres of road. Worldlaps does all of that by itself: you draw the area on a map and a few minutes later the track is installed and ready to drive.

It works anywhere in the world because it starts from real, open data: the streets and buildings from OpenStreetMap, each country’s official terrain and aerial photography for the ground. In Spain it uses the IGN terrain and orthophoto; in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, South Tyrol and several German states, each country’s official services.

Step by step

1. Choose what you want to drive

When the app opens you pick the map type:

  • Free roam: a whole area, with every street open, to drive as you like.
  • Rally stage: click the roads in order and a stage is built with start, finish and timing. Side exits are closed automatically.
  • Circuit on real streets: the longest loop of streets in the area becomes the circuit, or you chain the streets yourself.
  • Designed circuit: a new circuit is laid on the real terrain, among the real buildings.

2. Find the place and mark it on the map

Type the name of the town, the road or the pass and draw the area: a polygon, a rectangle, a circle or freehand. In stage mode you draw nothing: you zoom in and click the roads you want to drive. The app tells you right away how many streets and buildings are inside, how big the track will be and how long it will take on your computer.

3. Press generate

The app downloads the data of the area and builds the track: asphalt with its road markings, pavements, kerbs, walls, guard rails, bridges and tunnels, buildings with facades by type of construction, trees from the local vegetation and road signs in the local language. A small area takes a couple of minutes; a large map, longer.

4. Drive

When it finishes, one button installs it into your Assetto Corsa tracks folder (content/tracks). It shows up in the game launcher and in Content Manager like any other track. If you have Custom Shaders Patch it is used; if not, it works all the same.

How big can the track be

From one street to a whole island. Maps of more than 120 km², such as the whole of Formentera, have been generated and still drive smoothly. To start, the free version builds areas up to 1 km², enough for a neighbourhood or a small village. The full version has no area limit and no limit on the number of tracks.

What you need

  • 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
  • Assetto Corsa on Steam (the 2014 game, not Competizione or EVO).
  • An internet connection while the data is generated. Driving needs none.
  • Memory: 16 GB is fine for areas of a few km²; large maps want more.

No Blender, no Kunos editor, no modelling or modding skills needed.

Common questions

Is it a normal mod?

Yes. What Worldlaps produces is a track folder like the community ones. Race it alone or on a server, as long as the other drivers have the same track.

Does it work for rally stages, touge or drift?

Yes. Mountain passes and dirt roads, with their ruts, come out as they are. For drifting, industrial estates work well.

Can I recreate a real circuit?

If the circuit is in OpenStreetMap, yes: the track is recognised and its pit lane with garages, the painted grid and finish line, the tyre walls and the fences are built.

Yes. All data is open and its licences allow this use with attribution, which is included in the track. Worldlaps is not affiliated with Kunos.
